Winner of Best Open House 2024 – Returning May 2026
Lorna Brown

I’m a Somerset artist, and life in the countryside with my family, dogs, and horses fuels everything I create. My background as an animal therapist gives me a natural, intuitive understanding of movement, and I’m always looking to capture that energy in my work. My sculptures begin with a simple twist of wire, and as I follow where it wants to go, the first shape of the animal appears — some bursting into something dynamic, running or leaping, others settling into a moment of gentle stillness.
Those initial wire sketches are then built up with fabric and sculpture medium, gaining strength and presence while still holding onto that sense of movement. I’m endlessly inspired by the weathered textures and natural colours around me — rusting metals, worn paintwork, stone and wood washed up on the beach — and I love weaving those subtle effects into my finished pieces.
